A 32”-wide sheep and goat hay feeder with a trough.
It’s hard to find a durable sheep or goat hay feeder that’s built low enough for lambs and kids to reach. Most goat feeder troughs are built from plastic and sit on the ground. We wanted something more durable, so we created a modified version of our square bale feeder to serve as a sheep/goat hay feeder. Thanks to its 8” legs, it’s low enough that even lambs and kids can feed alongside the larger animals. (For a model with long legs, check out our square bale feeders.)
To build the hay rack on our sheep/goat hay feeder, we used 3/8” steel rods fastened to a frame of rectangular 1/8” steel tube. This goat hay feeder is designed to be loaded with hay bales – year after year after year. The sheep/goat feeder trough under the hay rack is built with 12-gauge steel, 32” wide. Drain holes in all four corners keep the goat feeder trough free of excess water; less moisture = more years of use.
One key benefit of the sheep/goat hay feeder is the reduced hay waste. Most of the hay scraps that fall from the hay feeder are caught in the trough, where they can be eaten. The more feed animals eat, the less money you waste. That’s always a good thing.
Standard Features
At Farmco, every sheep/goat hay feeder we build is welded from reinforced 12 gauge metal. Before it’s shipped, each finished feeder is painted with a two-part polyurethane coating in Hunter Green. Coatings are applied electrostatically to guarantee complete coverage. Each step in the manufacturing process is designed to help our feeders perform for years to come, even under tough farming conditions.
Farmco sheep/goat hay feeders range in length from 4’ to 8’ and come standard with:
